The Northern Lights – Fantastic Film Festival will return for its third edition this autumn, taking place October 30 – November 2, 2025. After two successful years in Akureyri, the festival moves to Stokkseyri, a village in Árborg, South Coast of Iceland. The festival home, Fisherinn - Cultural Center, a building that once housed the Ghost, Elf, Troll & Northern Lights Museums. An idyllic new home for a festival dedicated to the fantastic, the supernatural, and the otherworldly.
The decision to relocate the festival was made to bring it closer to the capital area and therefore, make it more accessible to Icelandic film students, emerging filmmakers, and our fantastic international visitors.
Our goal is as before, to bring something fantastic to the screen for fantastic film lovers and makers in the beautiful Icelandic countryside, support filmmakers of the fantastic genre, and encourage inspiration from Nordic and Icelandic folkloric heritage in future projects.
By hosting the festival in Stokkseyri, in a building long associated with folklore and the uncanny, the festival moves closer to the future of fantastic filmmaking!
We can’t wait to welcome our fantastic filmmakers and fans to our new and mystical venue!
